Brown County Indiana Tourist Tax Legislation
| All revenues derived from lodging of less than 30 days duration are taxed at the rate of 5%. Thistax is paid by lodging operators to the County Treasurer by the 20th day of the month followingreceipt of the revenues. The County treasurer sends all such taxes collected on a monthly basis tothe Brown County Convention & Visitors Commission. The Commission is to spend this money "topromote the development and growth of conventions and visitation in the county." The Commission is composed of 5 members. 3 of these members are appointed by the CountyCouncil to serve 2 year terms. At least 2 of these appointees must be engaged in the hotel or motelbusiness in the county. The remaining 2 members of the Commission are appointed by the CountyCommissioners to serve 1 year terms. At least 1 of these appointees must be engaged in the hotelor motel business in the county. Currently, this Commission contracts with the Brown County Convention & Visitors Bureau tospend the tax money collected by the Commission. This Bureau is a not- for -profit corporation.During 2002, the County Treasurer send the Commission $600,000 in taxes collected from lodgingestablishments. Current members of the Commission appointed by the County Council are Kevin Ault (Hotel Nashville), Lana Wrightsman (Green Valley Lodge) and Mike Goodin. Current members of the Commission appointed by the County Commissioners are:Andy Rogers (Brown County Inn) and James Lawrence. |
